Jesus Told Them Not To Tell

and commanded them that they should not make him known, Matthew 12:16

There He was, God in essence! Incarnated into the body of a human, He walked the streets with normal people.  All that Jesus did and said demonstrated that He was from a higher Kingdom. He moved with different power and authority. Disease and suffering left the ailing people at His command. It proved that He was here from the Almighty.

It was with no great effort that Jesus performed any of His miracles.  With a touch or a word, things instantly changed as He spoke.  Amazing!

Christ was the one person in all the history of the world who was different. He should have been able to stand up and tell the rest of humanity, “Look at Me.” But He didn´t do it like that.  He could have stood up to kings and authorities and said, “Step aside. I am here, and all authority belongs to Me.” Instead, Jesus moved around with common people.  He went into the synagogues and taught. Then He always withdrew to quiet places. When He healed someone, He told them not to reveal who He was. Why didn´t He want the world to know?

Jesus knew the work He needed to perform and kept His focus.  Some would recognize who He was and learn what He had to teach. But others would hate and kill Him. Still, He would pay the price our sins required. His story would then be shared with the whole world. Now we can stand with Him or not. The choice is ours.

More people would believe in Christ if He were here now performing miracles. But it would be because of all the physical proof. What God offers us is not just magical demonstrations of power. He would like to give Himself to those who have it in their hearts to seek that bond. The Lord is still moving in mighty ways. Most of all, He works towards heavenly goals. He is not so concerned about turning water into wine. But whenever He moves, it will be miraculous.

Dear Jesus, include us with those entrusted with the mighty secret. Our Savior lives and reigns on high! While the world makes what it will of faith in You, let us step even closer. Find in us a people who will seek You to engage with You. Then let that bond grow between us because our hearts reach for You. Amen
