Many good people haven´t realized that studying the Bible has its right and wrong ways. The Pharisees of Christ´s day were experts in their study of the Scriptures. But they failed to see that the words written there foretold of their crimes. The Bible also talks of us in our day. So, we should be careful to point ourselves and others in the right direction when we speak of going to the Word of God.
Studying the Bible is crucial. It will either preserve our lives or keep us from ever having true life with our God. People often use Biblical knowledge to further their earthly ways. We secretly pride ourselves on our knowledge. We lord it over others. We fill our heads with our own good fortune and celebrate the demise of those who don´t have what we do. We haven´t let the Bible condemn us and hang us on our cross. Every story of every person in the Bible is us. We have committed every crime. But the good can come to us as well.
When we start to see that the Word was written for us, it can bring us into a direct relationship with the Divine. We can lay down our ways of thinking and acting. We can learn to hear the instruction from our new, nearest, and dearest Friend. God can and will lead. But we must let His Word bring us to Him.
Dear Lord, we are all guilty of separating Your Word from You. We do it every time we think we understand something and forget to seek Your presence. Help us overcome our nature. Heighten our awareness until every verse makes us need You with us. Let every message lead us closer in our relationship. Ämen
