We seem to get easily confused by words in the Bible. We dissect them because we know they are important for our journey to the Lord. But it is too easy to forget that there is much for us to still learn in heavenly and spiritual terms. Hence the need for help. The right help in those realms does not come from peers. Encouragement can come from other humans. But to walk up the spiritual path, we need The Teacher, and our Guide. Step closer to the Lord and we can learn the mysteries of the heart, soul, and Spirit. Step out on our understanding or follow other teachers, and who knows what we may believe. The disciples went to the Lord for their answers because they knew He held the keys to eternal life. We would do well to do the same.
Remember, we too, have a spirit in us. When the spirit within us seeks God, we are on the right path.
Dear Lord, we are like sheep. We follow the herd and feel safer. But it is the Shepherd who we need. Be near us, please! Draw us close and let us take comfort from Your presence. Let this bond be what we place our confidence in. With You, we will understand what the Living Word will take us today. Remove our confidence in our understandings or anyone who does not hurl us back to You. Amen
Colossians 2:8 ESV / See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
Matthew 15:9 ESV / In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
1 Timothy 6:3-5 ESV / If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 ESV / For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
Galatians 1:6-9 ESV / I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.
John 14:26 ESV / But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Acts 1:8 ESV / But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Romans 8:9 ESV / You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV / Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
