If we were to strip down our faith and our religion, what would we find there?
There is much that we could include and many outward expressions. But should we try to get beyond all the superfluous matter and get to the heart of the matter, what is hiding there below the surface?
Far deeper than the need for correct actions, lie the motives and reasons for thinking, acting and responding to all things. Down there our complete soul or being must be adjusted to a fixed point where all else can be built upon and placed in its correct relation to.
We Christians claim to have found this center piece that all must be directed to and built around. This core is God, or His Son Jesus Christ.
It is a great and noble claim that we make and nobody could opt for a more perfect choice.
However, there is a world of difference in claiming something, and actually carrying it out.
Unfortunately this is where the fallen human race, you and I and all our loved ones seem to be wandering in the wilderness. God made His intentions clear for us and has always wanted us to pass on into the promise land. What remains if for us to be ready.
In the many treasures found in Matthew 5-7, here in chapter 6 verses 16-25 we have an excellent view of what the Lord is asking of us and how to properly adjust ourselves to that Core.
Jesus tenderly explains spiritual concepts using familiar earthly comparisons, but the meaning still stands. We must never settle for our religion to become the actions we do before men. Our correct adjustment is to God, who lives and moves outside and above our seen reality. We should think, act and feel by directing all and lifting up all to that Source, that Wonder, who is our God.
Christ uses the eye to demonstrate this point and it is a beautiful comparison. Imagine the eye that beholds only its God, that vision is clear. It is not focused upon itself but rather directed to One infinitely greater and more wonderful. This eye is not concerned with looking at itself but at God.
On the contrary, if that eye is concerned with looking at itself or at the lower earthly things around it, then how dark will its vision be?
One thing we each one need to do daily is this, we need to bring ourselves before our Savior with this very question. We need to hear from Him, what He sees beyond our outward expression and our reflected feelings. We need to be this serious about how we are adjusted to our center Core.
Jesus is alive and working closely with the Father. His attention is always turned towards us. He sees that the battle is not this life we struggle through here on earth. It is one over the ownership of the souls of the people whom He created. He quickly responds to the genuine attempt to adjust these souls to their Redeemer and Lord.
By focusing ourselves so purely on Him, our faith becomes more that fasting and more that the seeking of treasures to possess. We cease to be slaves of our earthly desires and our earthly treasure. We adjust ourselves and direct our gaze so entirely upon our Lord that the rest of our faith, religion and lives fall into line.
I don´t know about you, but I must go now to pray.
Hope to see you at His feet!
Amen
