¨And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.¨ Matthew 24:30 (KJV)
Here it is; it comes straight from the mouth of our blessed Savior. This is His promise to us. He has made many promises of being with us and helping us, but in this statement we set our hearts.
It is inconceivably wonderful that our Savior would send His Spirit to help us and comfort us. Our hearts feel like breaking with love for Him when we consider our God ignoring the immense barriers that separate deity and His created creatures. Yet He has promised to come to us in spirit and to guide us and fill us with His presence.
If you have had even just one moment of such filling of the Divine, your whole body and soul craves it again like a dying man in the desert without water. You were visited by your Lord and so moved by that experience, that you will suffer and struggle the rest of your life if need be to attain that closeness once again. But however wonderful that moment was, it cannot compare to the promised day when Jesus comes again and our eyes will finally catch sight of Him.
Our minds and our hearts may not be able to encompass what a marvelous thing it is that our all-powerful God left His throne above to come as one of us to live and die for us out of His great love. We may try to understand that kind of compassion that would allow One so perfect to take our guilt upon Himself and suffer at our hands and finally die to save the very ones who do not listen to Him. Yet He did offer for us His own life and even if we cannot assimilate it all, His gift to us is immense. But however incredible, there comes an inevitable day which completely overshadows it and there will be no way to expand our intelligence to take it all in.
Jesus says that in that day the inhabitants of the earth will beat themselves, they will wail and morn when they see coming what they were not looking for. But it is toward this day that we have placed our entire hope. This great event that has never been surpassed in importance, power or glory since the foundation of our planet is what we slave for. Even though we can sense the terror and our inability to ingest such size and importance, our hearts look forward to and long to see that day.
Dear Jesus, there is a moment in time for which we hold our breath. You have promised much but the one single great blessing that will out-weigh all else is when You return. There comes that day when You will wipe away all barriers that hold us from seeing You or being physically in Your presence. In that day we will set the eyes of our hearts, we would set a sure course for our attentions and desires till we reach that goal. Then the treasure we have found in You will be given in full. When we see You on that Day our hearts will not be able to contain all that the moment holds for us. Thank You that You will renew us and change the nature of our being so that the new creature will be able to receive all of You!
Until that day, take whatever toll you need and keep our hearts as our feeble down-payment, only guarantee that our eyes will see it and our hearts will be found in You.
Amen
