¨Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.¨ Matthew 26:2 (KJV)
So many times Jesus tells us what to expect but do we really listen? He told His Disciples exactly what was going to happen and how He was going to die, but they just didn´t get it and neither do we.
In Matthew 25 we heard from Jesus what kind of spirit Jesus expects us to have. However, how much effort or how many of us really strive to be like that? Our Savior tells us to be filled with the Love of God. All that we say and do should be tainted with and overflowing with that caring, sympathetic and endearing love which flows from the Father out into all of His creation. It needs to be a sign for us so that we can see that He lives in us.
It´s true that when the Disciples heard Jesus´ words they did not take it to mean what He had said in quite clear words. But our responsibility is to be found loving others with the love God has shown us. So now, are we hearing Him and reacting accordingly?
Dear Jesus, thank you for loving us with a love which we can spend an eternity exploring the depth and strength of. But at the same time as we learn of that incredible love, let it be found to live and flow in our hearts as well. Fill us to overflowing and let the excess pour out to others all around. Do not let us be like those who heard Your words before, but did not understand what You meant. Do not let us sit back in a comfortable interpretation of something without diving deep into You, to search Your will for us. Instead of being a people refined and well educated on scriptural doctrine alone, let us be a people defined by our love and care for others. Instead of living our lives to pursue our own dreams and pleasures, let us be people dedicated to serving and helping and loving those in need. And may the world rejoice when they see that we have heard and understood the wishes You have for us.
Amen
