¨For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.¨ Matthew 26:11 (Reference Bible)
The Disciples got a little upset when they saw this woman pouring out the expensive perfume on Jesus. They thought that they knew what the Lord wanted but acted out on their own without seeking His will first. There was no way for them to see into the future and know that this woman was actually being moved by the Spirit to prepare Jesus´ body for His funeral.
How often do we do the same thing? We go charging ahead thinking we know where Jesus is going or what He wants, but we have not gone to Him first. What the Disciples should have done is gotten a little closer to Jesus. They were right there in His presence, but they could have asked Him what was actually happening. Jesus did eventually tell them, but afterwards to correct their worldly reaction.
Jesus is always working. His Father has a plan and Jesus knows what that is. Jesus always carries out the wishes of His Father and is working towards His grand eternal plan. It is impossible for us to know exactly what He is working on in every given moment, but we don´t have to. Jesus demonstrated this in His own life too. He was the perfect example of One who did not act on His own even though He could have. Rather He looked always to His Father. He chose to do the will of His Father before that of His own.
In being like this, Jesus was able to combine His will with that of His Father. God will be happy to guide us into understanding of His movements, but it takes an effort on our part. First we have to look to Him. We have to trust in His control and hand in any given situation. He is surely working, but just how will be our question. Look away to Him and bring our question to Him. In doing so we give Him the credit for working out His plan and having the wisdom and power to do so.
Dear Jesus, draw us closer to You today. Take us into Your council and show us just how You are working out Your Father´s plan. We see the passing scenes of this day and of the world, but rather than jumping to our own conclusions, we would like to hear from You. Where are You going? How should we react? What do we need to be doing to go along with Your movements and bow to the workings of the Spirit? Be glorified in all that You do and show us Your hand as we look to You in faith.
Amen
