Fall Down Before Jesus

And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.  Mark 3:11 (KJV)

We have lost something in these last generations of what used to be a normal reaction for a common person when they found themselves in the presence of a person of higher standing.  If a peasant were to come into the company of a king or a ruler, there was a normal reaction of realizing the person´s difference.  The common person was acutely aware of his or her lower standing.   There were differences of education, dress, the way they spoke, the things they possessed and a host of other things that separated the two individuals.  Without difficulty these differences were felt and mostly respected.

Unfortunately though in our modern age we either have blurred those lines so much or have taught ourselves to believe in our own worth to a point where perhaps we hardly get excited even when we meet up with a famous or powerful person.  What was once a great moment packed with strong emotion and reverence has now become hardly a moment to remember.

Maybe some have had the chance to shake hands with a famous politician, actor or singer.  It could be that the encounter did have an impact upon the individual.  But it is a little frightening to see that a sensation which could aid us immensely in our approach of God has been watered down and somewhat lost to us in our modern age.

People were flocking from surrounding towns and villages.  Even from other regions where the word of Jesus was being spread, people came seeking to be in His presence and to be amazed.  Some wanted to be healed, some wanted to be directed towards God and their religion was not providing that closeness they were seeking.

Now when someone came to Him who had an evil spirit, that evil spirit realized immediately the relevance of the moment.  The dark spiritual war that is being fought may be able to reduce for some of us the importance of a moment spent in the presence of One with great worth.  But that moment was not lost on them.  Those spirits saw clearly who they had come into the presence of and it threw them down to the ground.  There was no other reaction available for them as they found themselves in the presence of the Son of God.  And when He commanded them not to speak, they were forced to obey because none of the significance of the situation was hidden from them.

Dear Jesus, what a joy and an honor it would be for us all if we could realize what it meant to be standing in the presence of the Most High.  Our curiosity has brought us flocking to You, but we are concerned with what reaction we are portraying.  Please overwhelm us with a sensation worthy of ones who realize they are standing before the very Son of God.  Let us drop to our knees as we see our insufficiency and it dawns upon us of Your greatness and mercy.  Do not let us become victims of our generation or these later times and lose the blessing of reverence and respect, of awe and submission one should feel when brought before the King of Kings.

Amen
