Taking Jesus In Us

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”  Luke 22:19 (NIV)

Jesus tells us He was looking forward to this day when He could celebrate this special feast together with us.  He takes bread and gives thanks to God.  He breaks it and hands it out to all who are with Him.  The Son of God says that this is a part of Him.  He says He is giving it to us.  He asks us to do this to show we remember Him.  Do we actually do this?  Do we take a part of Him in us?  Do we do it to remember Him?  Do we do it to keep Him with us in conscious awareness?  Do we do this to keep present and clear the gift He gave of Himself for us?  Are we taking Him in us now?  Are we remembering Him as He wanted us to do?

As the Saviour holds up bread and wine He says they are His body and His blood.  Should we then start looking at these substances in a different light?  Do we go past these items in the supermarket and make the same correlation?  Or can we see that the Son was speaking of something deeper?  Do we realize that He uses familiar examples to help us understand processes and changes in spiritual areas?  Do we see by His words and His actions that He is looking for a response deep within our souls?  Can we see that the spiritual realm where He would lead us is something that engages our whole heart?  Or do we prefer to leave it to materials that we can see and touch?  Do we like to follow a ritual or an act without allowing it to work its wonder in our very nature?

The ritual of eating ceremonial bread and drinking of Jesus´ cup is still celebrated in many religious circles.  But has it lost its weight of importance to us?  How many people go through with the actions?  How many of us stop to think of what we are really doing with our Lord?  Are we filling ourselves with an action or a substance?  Are we merely remembering a gift given long ago?  Or are we taking what our Saviour gives us of Him inside of us?  Is what Jesus offers us of Himself truly making it to the deepest parts of our interior?  Are we really sharing of His body and His blood?  Are we truly remembering Him?  Is this remembrance bringing Him into full light in our lives?  Does it place Him in our here and now?  Is this the wonder that is happening as we perform our rituals and our worship?

Jesus gives us His very self.  Are we reducing His action in any way right now?  Are we spending merely a few moments of our time now, just to return to our busy lives the next?  Or are we remembering Him as an eternal, living and unlimited Being?  Are we remembering that we stand here within His sight and in His Presence right now whether we see it or not?  Are we taking part of Him into us to the point where it nourishes us?  Are we finding that it is Him which is giving us strength and ability to live?  Are we aware that what we put inside of us of His love and His Presence is what sustains us and helps us to grow?  Are we realizing that something wonderful is happening as we accept Jesus within our hearts?  Can we see that it is not about actions or substances, but something eternally more important?  How are we taking part of Him today?

Dear Lord, help us bridge this gap between what we see on earth and what is happening in a Greater Realm!  Teach us what is going on deep within!  Help us to take You into us!  Help us to remember You in ways which we have never guessed!  Help us to actually take You into hearts and our souls today, we pray!

Amen
