Seeing God

Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.  John 5:19 (NIV)

What if we were to say that faith in God is looking at Him with the heart?  If we were to turn our entire soul over to contemplate Him day and night, do we think that soon God Himself would loom into view?  If we could direct the very spirit we have inside us towards that Light and let our hearts burn only for Him, would we be so much closer to Him?  If we could gaze at God with all that we have and all that we are, do we think He would hide Himself from us?  Could it be that Jesus Christ found His direction, His strength and His wisdom by focusing Himself that wholly on His Father?  Was it by selflessly looking always upward which showed Him what to say and do in every moment?  Was He the Blessed Son because His Father knew He would be this close and this faithful?  Could being a little more like Christ in this respect change everything in our lives today?  If we could make ourselves this committed to being with God and looking to Him in every instant, do we think He would gladly share Himself with us too?

We struggle through our lives here on earth.  It is a fight most of the time and a great battle to stay afloat.  But could our striving and anguish be eased simply by having a clearer image of God?  If we could somehow see the size, the power, and the love of our God, would all the problems we experience suddenly seem small?  If the barriers were pulled back and we could gaze openly upon the Wonder which Is our Creator, would we hardly even notice whatever else was going on around us?

Are there left still today people who would shrug off the misconception that God cannot be experienced?  Are there some here now who would reject the fancy words and low level of acceptance which are held out to us now?  Are there people left who sense a burning and a need to be close to their Maker?  Would we like to look on Him?  If we could make it a big enough priority, could we actually get into His Presence?  Could we gaze at God?  Would it solve a million problems that we are facing today?  Who would like to try?

Dear Jesus, show us the Way!  Show us how You look to the Father!  Teach us the art!  Teach us the wonder!  Teach us the joy and the power found there!  Open for us the glorious vision of God!  Let us see Him!  Let us gaze upon His majesty!  Harden our sight!  Focus the eyes of our heart and soul!  Never, not for all eternity let us ever want to remove ourselves from looking up to Him!
