But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. Acts 4:19
They have been told not to speak in the name of Jesus. The Apostles state their dilemma. They hear and they would comply if they could. But they can´t, they have been with Jesus. They know that God is at work. They are compelled by forces unknown to this world. They follow God. Where the Lord leads them, they must follow. It may mean that they cannot do what men would wish of them. They are answering a higher calling. They are true to an infinitely higher Authority. They must serve God. They cannot be quiet about Jesus. They cannot contain the power that flows in His name. Is this our dilemma too?
Religion has come a long way from the days of the Apostles. Mighty things still happen from time to time. But are they happening to us right now? If we are not seeing God move in powerful ways, could it be because we are not acting like the Disciples? Could we have settled for something less than actually coming into the Presence and company of Jesus? Could we be listening to men instead of hearing the voice of God? Who are we obeying today? Is it men? Or are we truly listening to God?
Dear Lord,
Please show us Your will for us today! Draw us so close in our relationship with our Saviour, that we know where the Spirit is moving around us and in our lives. As our ears become tuned to hear, give us strength to obey our God, and not listen to men we pray!
Amen
