Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed. Acts 5:16 (NIV)
“Here he comes!” The whisper is heard. “Perhaps even his shadow will pass over us!” The sick and suffering try to place themselves where the man of God will pass. The Apostles, the ones who were with Jesus, the ones who are carrying the message of Christ to the world, still carry the power of the Lord. They are healing those in need. Those who are tormented are coming to them and they are healed! Is this just a story? Is it a coincidence? Or is this what happens when God is Present in the lives of His true followers? Where God is moving, is it just right and true that healing also comes to those who need it?
Today we put our trust in doctors, studied men and women and in our systems of health care. Today we may go to God in prayer over our troubles, but do we go to Him for healing? Are we so moved by our faith that we seek the shadow of people who we know have walked with Jesus? Do we turn to faith before we turn to experts with credentials or “natural” cures? If we want our troubles to be healed so we can rejoice in God again, should we try to get back to the days where people looked to Him for healing?
Dear Lord,
Teach us to come unto You as they did long ago. Teach us to come to You to be healed. Teach us to trust in You and what You are up to in our lives! Let the healing from our troubles and suffering come from our faith in You now we pray!
Amen
