As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?” Acts 8:36 (NIV)
Why shouldn´t we be baptized? The question is put forth. Can we hear it ring within the depths of our soul? Has it ever come to the surface of our thoughts? Do we ever consider it? Is it a decision made once then left in the distant past? Or is it something we can hold close to our heart each and every day? Do we question why we should be baptized? Or do we question why shouldn´t we be baptized into faith in Jesus Christ?
If our expression is to appease fellow men, then the question has its meanings. But if we would settle a burning matter between our hearts and the Lord, then we are considering something completely different. We are making a transaction of soul. We are making a eternally significant change of ownership. Our question may have a corresponding act that demonstrates this change of heart to us, to Him and to the world. But the question of why shouldn´t we be baptized into faith in Jesus is a question we can ask our hearts each day! We can leave the thought as many do locked away in a flowery ritual or requisite to an organization. Or we can have our expression of soul to tie us together with the Lord every time we come to consider why shouldn´t we be baptized into faith in Jesus!
Is there a new immersion of faith that could tie us further into You in love and devotion? Tell our burning souls why shouldn´t we be baptized in our hearts again today we pray!
