He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. Acts 12: 2 (NIV)
In our world today we have come to think differently of the price. Commerce has flourished. Materialism has grown. People go out in search of bargains. We have become consumer machines! We want more for less. It may be excusable when considering trinkets or food. But when this logic comes to our souls, this is when the consequences become everlasting. To think wrong or make the wrong calculation can and will cost us our lives for all eternity to come. Do we know the price we must pay to truly call ourselves believers and followers of the Son of God?
The very first Christians were so focused upon Christ that they knew how much they were willing to pay. There was no secret where the followers stood in their communities and they did not even try to hide it in their hearts. Jesus paid for our souls with His own life. He asks us to be willing and eager to do the same for Him. To have Him in us and with us we need to know how much we are willing to give! Shall we take a solemn moment to consider the price we are willing to pay for Him today?
Now is not the day where men are willing to go out of their way to have You in their lives. But we cannot let that happen! Move in us now! Drive us hard after You! Make our desire to be with You outweigh any price we may ever have to pay! Just assure us our part with You! Show us what price loving You will cost us, then help us give all that and more we pray!
