The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God–he and his whole family. Acts 16:34 (NIV)
At times while reading the Bible we can get the sensation that we are viewing as if through a window into the hearts and lives of the people we are reading of. We find the lives of this jailer and his family radically changed when God shakes their world and opens their hearts to the message Paul and Silas have to share. We can nearly see the smile spreading across their faces as they hear of Jesus Christ. Even in the late hour of night they eagerly listen to and embrace the thought of a risen Savior now standing before God for them. They are filled with joy. Is that joy spreading to us as we read of, and see their enthusiasm? Are we still sensitive enough to the movement of the Lord to sense joy welling up within us because hearts are believing in God?
Is it time we examine our own hearts today? Could we look through the window into the reflection we are having towards belief in God? What do others see in us as they gaze at our lives? Are we filled with joy? Or have we forgotten what it was like to get worked up over our salvation, the love we have found in Christ, or the chance we have to come into the Presence of God the Father?
Please fill our hearts with the thrill that comes from knowing You! Let our coming into Your Presence fill us with excitement and radiate from us to all those around! Let all who see know our joy comes from believing in You we pray!
