But the Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason’s house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd. Acts 17:5 (NIV)
Some feel a burning inside of their hearts for the Truth. Some want to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Some want to believe that we can set our hopes in Him alone. Others sense a different kind of smoldering inside. Jealousy wells up in them. It drives them to harmful feelings and cruel intentions. They refuse to look at their spiritual condition with God´s intentions. They give themselves to jealous thoughts. Could it even happen to us Christians at times?
In the realm of religion jealousy can be one of the most prominent sentiments. Everyone has their own convictions. The natural reaction is to defend and uphold our conclusions. But natural is not the nature of the Christian. We have chosen Christ´s nature over the natural one. We need not give in to heated defense or harbor vicious sentiments. We do not have to argue or eradicate. We take up matters with the Lord on our knees. Love is to rule our beings, not cruelty! Shall we pray that we burn for more of Christ today instead of being people who smolder with jealousy?
Help us eradicate evil in ourselves instead of look for it in others. Fill us with Your nature and Your love. Let us burn for You instead of burning with jealousy we pray!
