Paul replied, “Short time or long–I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.” Acts 26:29 (NIV)
The Prayer is that we may all become Christians. But what does it mean to be a Christian? Is a Christian just a person who declares that they have converted to particular way of thought? Are we individuals who have weighed the arguments and chosen the side with more convincing evidence? Is becoming a Christian merely accepting a name to describe us? Is it joining a social group or a larger family setting to move around in? Does being a Christian mean that we are trying to act like other church-going individuals and strive to achieve their level of morals and standards? Or are we looking in the wrong direction when we focus on these things?
The concept of becoming a Christian may mean these and more to many people. But this is not the kind of Christians that we are called to be! Being a CHRIST-ian should mean that we have come into contact with Christ! To become Christian should mean that we are coming to know Jesus and our lives reveal this growing bond we share with Him. Changes will come. But our evidence is not firm declarations, acts or ideals. We are becoming one with God! Shall we pray that we may become the kind of Christian that is not known for anything less than Christ is now reflected in us?
Increase this bond we share with You! Let our relationship with, our devotion to, and our worship of You expand until all can see clearly that we have become souls filled with Christ!
