When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.” Acts 28:4 (NIV)
The world has its ideas about justice. A man of God is bitten by a poisonous snake. He has just managed to survive a shipwreck but it looks like fate (what they call justice) will not let him live. But what the world fails to consider is who has the power. Is the decision up to fate, justice or is it ultimately up to God? We naturally trust nature. We trust science. We trust what we know of medicine. We know what reactions must follow as a result of certain circumstances. But do we know Who is in charge? Do we know Who or what really allows us to live?
Paul knows God. He walks each moment with His Savior. His heart is tuned in Spirit and in obedience. He is connected to Something far greater than what the world calls fate or justice. The man of God is connected to the only true force that allows us to live. The Lord gives us each breath. He lovingly formed us in His mighty hands. He tenderly cares for us each day. He sacrificed much to see us grow to spiritual maturity. Shall we return His sentiments of love? Shall we seek Jesus and turn ourselves wholly to the only One Who can really say that we are allowed to live?
As the world looks the other way, we look to You. Tie us forever to You, the only One Who can say we will be allowed to live. Let us come and find our life in You now we pray!
