for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 NIV
When we hear God´s servant tell the world that all have sinned what happens inside of us? What is our reaction? Do we allow ourselves to smile in pride over our decision to be called Christians? Do we feel a tinge of superiority over the choice we made to believe in Christ? Or does the hint of incrimination still have the power to cut us deeply? Can we read those words and realize that we still have moments where we turn our backs on Jesus. Are we still so aware of our guilt that we cannot keep from seeking a quiet place alone to weep at the feet of Jesus?
Scriptures help us see that we all have had our part in placing Jesus upon His cross. If we never looked to anything else but God, Christ would never have had to die. Adam and Eve made their choices. But each one of us from that day on chooses who and what to please. Sadly to say most of the time we only seek to please ourselves. We pat ourselves on the back for any reason under the sun and do it at every chance. But God looks on, waiting for those who realize that they have strayed. Only the ones who see the distance they have placed will turn and seek Him again. Shall we accept incrimination today? Shall we let our own part in Jesus´ death drive us to seek Him as our Savior right now?
Forgive us for ever turning from You! Afflict us now with our need for a Savior. Make our hearts repent and turn from our distractions and return all our attention to You we pray!
