Do Not Even Know

Do Not Even Know

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  Romans 8:26  NIV

Every time we begin to feel good about ourselves and proud of our standing, God would have us know we have no right to boast.  The rewards He has for His true children are still found through the painful valleys of self-denial and deep need for a Savior.  Even in prayers we cannot become cocky, demanding, or give commands to God.  On the contrary, the person who wants to follow Jesus will be led by the Spirit on a journey of soul.  Even while we struggle towards our Goal, we cannot imagine the dangers, the direction our path should take, or all that we should pray for.  Do we realize how much we actually need the Spirit to direct us?

God may permit the proud to continue to boast of their faith.  But He will hold His dependent children close unto Him.  Those aching souls who suffer out of our need for Christ will still be led by none other than the Holy Spirit.  We learn to lean on Christ when we are aware of our weakness. The Spirit needs to see this dependency and trust in us, to intercede for us.  Shall we praise the Lord today for His providence and love as He sends the Spirit to help us through all our limitations?  Shall we thank Him all the more for being there when we do not even know we need Him?

Oh dear Spirit of God,

Thank You for Your helping us in all the ways we do not even know!  Show us how much we need You each day we pray!

Amen
