as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes so that they could not see and ears so that they could not hear, to this very day.” Romans 11:8 NIV
If we can be moved to honesty, we can detect deep a struggle within to let God into every corner of our lives. Awareness of the Presence of God is not always flooding into us and over us. We can be moved to improve our lifestyles. We can accept higher ideals. We can be convinced by doctrines. We can approach the altar, and bow at times, to God. We can set aside personal worship time and prayer. But can we still sense that the Presence of God is still too often hidden from us by some mysterious spirit of stupor?
Praise the Lord above that there can be some sweet souls who realize our sad condition. They will be called jewels in the crown of Christ. These are those burning hearts whose conscience was stricken at the realization that there is still distance between us and our God. These are the precious ones who are pained to find they are called unto God but their vision is still far too blurry. They drop everything at the chance to restore their own heart to Jesus. They will suffer if need be, to see even a bit more clearly and experience some new discoveries of Christ and our Heavenly Father. Shall we seek a Way beyond our spirit of stupor today?
Break through the clouds that hide Your Presence from us! Help us exchange our clouded spirits for The Spirit that can show us increasingly brilliant discoveries of You each day!
