Mere Men

Mere Men

You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?  1st Corinthians 3:3  NIV

There was no way that the two could see eye to eye.  His boss just did not like him.  But because his boss was away a lot, he needed someone trustworthy who could handle the million and one small emergencies that pop up in running the business.  Their characters did not match and because he had been hired to organize the warehouse, he steadily attacked the piles of personal clutter which had grown up and now got in the way of the day-to-day traffic of the warehouse.  But as soon as the clutter was gone, so was his job.  He was downsized with no further explanation.

We are called to be more.  Christians are people, but our call is not just to be better people.  The world is full of people who will live out their allotted years chasing gain, pleasure and making a name for themselves, but not us!  We are called to worship the Most High!  We are called to gaze in wonder into eternity!  We are called to serve the King of Kings!  We are called into a relationship with the Divine!  We are not mere men who can bicker, argue and jealously defend our preferences!  We are called to look away from us and to the Son of God!  Shall we pray that we resemble children who belong to a higher Kingdom and are not just mere men?

Dear Lord,

Set our hearts and our attention higher than the low plain where we now tread.  Set our eyes and hearts on the God of Glory!  Help us start reflecting Your love and nature, we pray!

Amen
