Not Our Own

Not Our Own

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;  1st Corinthians 6:19  NIV

He dreamt of it.  He got a job and worked hard for it.  When he was 16, he bought that car of his dreams.  He loved and cared for his precious ride.  He even got ahead on the payments.  Then one night, when he and his friends came out of a church youth meeting, it happened.  A friend needed a lift.  Several others jumped into the car until all the seats were full.  As they were parked on a lonely road discussing which way to go, a drunk driver ran into the back of them.  It sandwiched them into a tree.  The new car was totaled.  Thankfully, nobody was hurt.  But as the teenager examined the damage, the horror overwhelmed him.  S H _ _! He screamed.

The next day a church member who lived in that area took the boy aside.  She told him that she was sorry about the accident and could feel his disappointment.  But she also said that the one thing she couldn´t understand was how a boy that belonged to Christ could use such language.  We are God´s.  We belong to Jesus.  From the minute we give Him our hearts, we are meant to be completely and utterly in love with Him.  Our devotion, our thoughts, and our actions should display our commitment to the One our hearts supposedly belong to.  Shall we pray that those around us will clearly see that we are not our own?

Dear Lord,

In a world that sees all we do, please help us display what a joy and a privilege it is to belong fully to You, we pray!

Amen
