The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 1st Corinthians 7:4
“You may kiss the bride!” He said. “I now pronounce you man and wife!” As the couple turned to leave they asked him if that was it. He told them in a gentle voice; “No, now is just the beginning!”
Long ago people got married to share their lives, sweat, and tears. They married to form a team. Couples knew they would need to count upon the strength of their spouse to help in areas where they lacked. Together they would go hand in hand through the challenges of raising a family and educating their children. But things are different now. We live in societies where we are taught that we should have anything we want. The emphasis has shifted from the family, or the team, to the individual. Husband believes he should have everything he desires and the wife believes she should have everything she has ever dreamed of.
The Bible gives us a completely different picture. Our model, Jesus Christ did not withhold anything for Himself. He was selfless. He is the heir to all things, but He takes nothing for Himself. As He Is, so we should be. We should be selfless too. We should become experts in thinking of others. Could we call for Divine help?
Help us not to be self-oriented. Teach us to think of others as You showed us! Give us such a clear view of You and a close walk, that we can follow You in selflessness too, we pray!
