Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1st Corinthians 9:24 NIV
The triathlon began and he sprinted off to the cheers of family and friends. Training had taught him to pace himself. But the other runners were pressing forward. Soon he was winded, but he kept going. His pace slowed. People began passing. At first, it was only the fitter men, but then some women and finally a group of older ladies. They tried to encourage him but it only disheartened him more. After the run came the bike ride. It was the same. People flew past him. He kept going. The last stage was kayaking. This was his strongest area. He began passing others. But by now he wasn´t even racing, he would stop paddling, sip on his water, and watch the other racers go by again.
After the race, the young man was surprised to find he had place rather well. He had not known that the full triathlon runners were competing at the same time as individual event runners. He had been passed by runners and cyclist that were only running their strongest sport. Would it have made a difference if he had known? How do we run our race in life? Do we even know? Are we focusing on the crazy pace around us? Or are we running to the Lord as if He is our Prize? Shall we take our goal serious enough to ensure that we are coming closer to Christ with every step?
Help us run to You! Let us come closer each step! Supply us with a focus that brings ever nearer to our Prize, we pray!
