Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 2nd Corinthians 1:9 NIV
A man accepted the invitation to go with a friend to a concert. He did not always agree with the way his friend thought or acted. But they usually had fun together and this day was no exception. At least until they got caught. His friend did something illegal and he was right there with him. The next thing he knew they were handcuffed and heading to jail. They spent that night behind bars. This man may not have been bad, but feeling the sentence he faced made him check who he was relying on.
We tend to make poor decisions. If we rely on our own intelligence, or on our own strength, our sentence will require repentance. Even if we are not really being bad, sometimes we will still face harsh situations. But we have a Heavenly Father. He has not forgotten us or turned against us. He has the nearly impossible job of teaching us that we need Him! We must rely on God! We need God´s Son in and with us constantly! Only our Savior can wash away our guilt! Can we feel any hard sentences that may be facing? Shall we check who we are relying on, and edge in closer to the only Friend Who can ever really save us from ourselves?
Help us check what we are relying on! Let us see that each step we take on our own, or without You puts us in unimaginable danger! Let all our hard sentences help us to get close and stay close to You forever, we pray!
