“Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 2nd Corinthians 6:17 NIV
The first time he tasted shellfish was when he was in his twenties. He was at a restaurant with some friends. One of the entrees looked enticing so he dove in. But his throat began to swell and itch terribly. Fortunately, he did not end up in the hospital, but he learned that he was allergic to crustaceans. The man had grown up in a strict denomination where many drinks and foods were unclean. He had been taught not to touch un-kosher foods. Do we think that God will receive us if our diet is right? Or do the scriptures urge us closer to God and deeper into the truth?
Now that we have come to know Jesus, we no longer belong to the world we live in. A significant shift must still take place within us. No longer will we relish, appreciate, or chase after the same desires as those of our world. Our gaze shifts to Heaven! We live for Jesus! We look up, not sideways to our surroundings. We are no longer here to get as much as we can out of our life. Once we lived for that drink or the taste of luscious food, but now we live to be with our Lord! We live to draw as much of our attention, and that of those around us, to God! Shall we roll up our sleeves, turn our focus, and get to the holy work of seeking our Savior today?
Give us such a taste of You that we no longer live for the delicacies of this world. Let our hearts separate from the old desires and ways, and hunger for You, we pray!
