In Our Hearts

In Our Hearts

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  2nd Corinthians 9:7  NIV

“Awe man!”  You could see it in their eyes.  They did not want to share.  Two children were asked by their parents to let the other one play with the present that they got for Christmas.  They both wanted desperately to get ahold of the other one’s toy.  But they couldn´t stand the thought of their brother with their new treasure.  Their parents tried to reason with them, as they had chosen the gifts with the intention that they would both share them.  But it was no use.  To teach their children the joy of sharing, would they have to resort to obligating their children?  Why is it so difficult for us humans to give from a compassion that wells up in our hearts?

One of the saddest proofs of the fall of man is this deep-rooted selfish desire that leaves little room for caring about anyone else.  It is so much a part of us and starts at such a young age, that God had to work a wonder to provide us with a Way to change it.  He gave unfathomably more than we can comprehend in giving us His Son.  This gift of Love that came from deep in the heart of God, can now take up residence in our hearts too!  Shall we pray that the gift of Jesus is not lost on us?  Shall we pray that we are so moved that Christ´s love wells up from deep in our hearts and pours out to all?

Dear Lord,

Let the weight of Your Gift of sacrifice bear down into our souls until we are affected deep in our hearts, we pray!

Amen
