Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” Galatians 3:11 NIV
Two men bowed their heads to pray. One man had dedicated his life to sharing his beliefs, instructing others in Biblical interpretation, and in fulfilling his duties to his church. The other man had taken a far different approach to life. He knew he had made way too many mistakes. Their prayers came from completely different angles. Their voices sounded different. Their praising words to God held separate meanings to them and to the Lord. The sentiments behind that drove their words rang with other levels of urgency and self-consciousness. One man desperately needed grace. The other spoke with correct terminology. One man painfully needed to hear that his insufficient faith could be covered by the cross of Jesus. The other, was confident in his studies? What is it that we live by? How do we know? Have we brought our faith before God to examine what it is that we live by?
God calls us beyond shallower teachings and to be cleansed by the blood of Jesus. We are given one Way to bring us to God. Pride, complacency and a false sense of security will always be a threat to our faith. Can we hear the call? Shall we take the care and the time now to work out with the Lord how much of His Son we will have? to put our faith in right now and forevermore?
Help us past any comfortable beliefs or lofty ways. Increase our need for a Savior until our desire for Him grows. Drive us so hard in our seeking that we live by our faith alone, we pray!
