May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14 NIV
A girl came nearly every day to visit a high school boy. She was one of the top students in his class. She came on the pretense of studying together. But she was not there to do homework. She always had hers finished. He would copy hers. She came because she was interested in the boy´s brother. While he was copying her homework, she was flirting with his brother. Everyone was OK with the situation until she began boasting that he was passing only thanks to her. Things had to change. What do we boast about?
Thanks to her boasting, the boy began studying for himself. He no longer invited her over and the girl lost her opportunity to flirt with the brother. The boy´s grades improved all because of her boasts. Christians have something to boast about. But do we know what it is? We could boast about things in our faith that make us look big. We could be proud of things we find that benefit us. But Paul boasted in the cross of Jesus. It is that cross that saves both him and us. It is that cross that removes our attention from the clamorous world we live in, and places it on Christ, our hope and our salvation! Could we pray to be like the Apostle? Could we ask the Lord to help us make our only boast the one that crucifies our trust in ourselves and our world and lean us more on the Lord?
Let us boast not about what builds us up or makes us big, but on what removes all else and gives us only You, we pray!
