may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, Ephesians 3:18 NIV
A youth was waiting for his family in a car early one morning and praying to God. Suddenly he was given a peek into eternity. He did not see anything special. He was just made painfully aware of what time will be like with no end. We live on earth taking comfort in the familiar limits. We fancy the idea of immortality. But it is a concept so distant and difficult to picture that we cannot begin to imagine all that it implicates. The boy was frightened to the core. Worse than the thought of never dying was the shocking reality of living for all of the countless ages to come. Have we ever had a revelation of God that rocked our world?
That boy´s frightening experience left him trembling. He prayed that God would not open him to it again. He humbly recognized our mortal state. He counted on the limits God has placed. He prayed that Jesus would be with him to hold his hand and lead him one step at a time. Could we pray with our friend, that Christ will walk so closely with us now, that we will have a trusted Friend to lean on as we go through the overwhelming discoveries of how wide and how deep the eternal mysteries of our God are? Shall we ask for reassurances of His love that will sustain us and be the only Way we can ever stand when we are faced with Eternity?
Be near us now! Hold us as we learn of how wide, how long, how high, and how deep You reach and Your love is, we pray!
