Ephesians 3:19 What Measure

and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Ephesians 3:19  NIV

 

Two men stood talking about their faith one day in a warehouse.  One handed the other a copy of the book The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer.  This book had been essential in turning around this man´s spiritual life.  The other man took one look at it and handed it back.  He said he knew of the author from people quoting him in his church group, but that he preferred lighter kinds of reading.  He did not want to read Tozer´s books because they made him take too close of a look at where he really stood in his relationship with God.  What about us?  Are we willing to measure our faith?

Tozer does challenge any would-be Christian.  He states that we have right now the very amount of God that we truly want.  This thought was painful to both men that day, but for different reasons.  To one, it hurt him to think that his tie to God could be stronger and more intimate.  To the other, it was too painful for him to take his attention off of himself and place it where he knew it should be with God.  Can we relate to either of these men?  How do we feel about where we stand in our relationship with the Lord?  Are we stopping short with the amount we feel comfortable with?  Or will we seek to be filled with the greater measure of God that He would want us to have with Him today?

 

Dear Lord,

Enflame us with the desire to draw nearer unto You until we are moved in each moment by Your Spirit and love, we pray!
