Imitators of God

Imitators of God

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children  Ephesians 5:1  NIV

His dad loved him with a passion.  He took him everywhere he could with him.  He took him on adventures.  He taught him how to fish and how to ride a bike.  When his father had his straight hair permed into a curly mass, the boy wanted it done too so that he could look like his dad.  Whenever he could, the boy wore little T-shirts that looked like the ones his dad wore.  The way he stood, the way he laughed, and the way he talked, were all greatly influenced by what he saw his dad doing.  When he grew older, he would follow in his dad´s footsteps and study the same career that his father had.  Are we like that with our Father in Heaven?

Many earthly sons and daughters imitate beautifully the manners and thoughts of their parents.  We have the most indescribably great Heavenly Father.  He constantly demonstrates His deep love, His unsurpassable wisdom, and His mighty deeds.  We are infants in spiritual terms.  We take our baby steps towards God.  But we are His children.  We are called to become like Him.  We can copy His love, His compassion, His forgiveness, and His care.  Depending on how much we love Him, our transformation begins.  If we spend time with the Lord, surely His character will rub off on us.  Shall we lift our God high in our appreciation of Him?  Shall we pray that we become the best imitators of our God today?

Dear Lord,

Draw us so near in our walk with You today that we learn well how to be Your loving, devoted, and caring children, we pray!

Amen
