I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Philippians 4:12 NIV
They were barely scraping by. They were a hard-working couple. But life was a struggle for them financially. The jobs that they had been fortunate enough to find in their country laid them off for a few months each year. It was difficult to survive until they picked up again? Many prayers were sent up to God asking Him to make a way for them. They had to learn to be happy trusting in God to care for them. In poverty or wealth, they would need their Lord. Do we know what can keep us content in every situation?
The earthly focused people find their contentment in a secure or comfortable living here. Their highest goals are to be well-fed and live a life of plenty. But the Christian looks to the higher reward of knowing God. We want an eternal life of bliss in His presence. Those who find their joy in knowing God can watch their relationship with Him grow through any situation. We hunger for and are fed each day by our Lord. It does not depend on earthly luxuries. Could we benefit from learning the secret of depending on the Lord whether we are in plenty or in want? Could knowing God help us to be content in any situation we face today?
Dear Lord,
Show us enough of You that we find our everlasting contentment in knowing You more each day, we pray!
