Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2 NIV
Her children had grown up and moved out. Her husband was gone a lot for work. She worked as a secretary to pay the bills. But she dedicated her time to prayer. She prayed for her loved ones. Her children did not attend church anymore. She prayed for relatives. She met many people through her job. She prayed for them. She would wake up long before she had to go into work. With her Bible open, she would pray there. Behind the reception desk, when she was not attending someone, her lips were moving silently. A young new worker came to that company. Her prayers and her faith helped him make a great change in his life. What do we devote ourselves to?
One might be tempted to feel pity for a person who is driven to their knees. But this woman knew the joy of walking with the Lord. With Him, she could smile all through her day. It is true, many things burdened her. But she was able to carry her burdens because they brought her closer to God. Christ was needed every minute of the day and she knew it. She sought Him. She came looking for Him. Should we? Shall we rather glory in all that brings us to our knees? Shall we ask the Lord that our burdens can make us need Jesus and help us walk with Him through our day?
Make it our greatest joy to devote ourselves to talking with You! Let our need to be with You consume us, we pray!
