Dealing With Children

1st Thessalonians 2:11 Dealing With Children

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,  1st Thessalonians 2:11  NIV

Uh oh!  They were in trouble again!  Discipline was called for and the mother had to say, “Just wait until your dad gets home!”  When he did he took his boys down into the basement.  In those days a spanking was they reminder given to those who had trouble remembering to listen to their parents.  As he gave his speech for why discipline was necessary, tears welled up in his eyes.  He did not want to spank them.  Instead, he had his boys spank him for their disobedience.  It hurt them worse having to strike their innocent dad.  Those boys still remember their lesson today.  Do we remember often that our Heavenly Father suffered for us?

The truth is that dealing with children can be painful.  Children have a lot to learn and parents know they have a great responsibility.  Not all parents have known exactly how to handle their children.  Our Heavenly Father did.  It hurt Him, but He found a Way to put us on the right track.  Apostles, preachers, and parents, have all suffered to bring the knowledge of the love of God to us.  Could we reflect?  Would it help to remember the concern, the tears and the pain that it cost those who had to teach us?  Can we thank our Heavenly Father for dealing with us in love?

Dear Lord,

Thank You for all You have suffered to bring us up in faith.  Help us remember Your love and care and share it with those we deal with no matter what it must cost us, we pray!

Amen
