Do Not Reject

1st Thessalonians 4-13

Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.  1st Thessalonians 4:8  NIV

They stood above the class 6 rapid trying to decide if they could run it.  There were experienced whitewater raft guides along with reckless young men with a hunger for adventure.  The drop was considered too dangerous to be run.  But they thought they could do it.  It was basically a waterfall in the shape of a horseshoe.  The danger was a sharp rock right in the middle where all the water had to pass.  They decided they would attempt to ride the fast water and try to go just to the side of that rock.  But when they began picking up speed, they realized that the one steering the boat headed for one side while the rest of the crew went for the other.  They all knew they could die if they ran that rapid.  They had rejected the warning.  Have we ever rejected some vital instruction?

Every one of the foolish daredevils survived.  Perhaps it was a miracle.  The boat flipped right in the worst place.  When they popped up downstream, they righted the boat and began rescuing the others.  The misdirected helmsman though, could not be lifted back into the boat.  His side was torn open and his ribs were cracked.  Shall we pray that we are more careful with our reaction to even more vital instruction?  Shall we pray that we do not reject anything that would bring us closer to God, who gives us His Spirit?

Dear Lord,

Help us to pay great attention and take every instruction that gives us You and more of Your Holy Spirit, we pray!

Amen
