Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. 1st Thessalonians 5:15 NIV
The teacher had to stop a girl in the class from hitting the boy next to her. When asked why she felt that she needed to punch him, she explained that her parents had taught her not to let people push her around. She was instructed to fight back. So the teacher went around to room asking to see if there were any students that had been taught to be kind and not to resort to swinging their fists. None could be found. The children all considered themselves Christians, but each one had been taught by their parents to pay back wrong for wrong. Is this what we are taught too?
Jesus taught a completely different way to be. (Matthew 5:38-42) He recognized that the world would teach us to get back at others and pay them what they deserve. But out of love and compassion, we can be kind to others. This is what being a Christian is all about. The closer we walk with Jesus, the more of His love and care for others will flow through us. Our Lord suffered it all to restore His lost children back into a loving relationship with Him. He should be able to receive a reward for the seeds He sowed in love. We could stop going around hurting each other. Shall we pray that we can be like our Savior? Shall we ask God to put His love in our hearts and that we are kind to those around us today?
Teach us to care about others and to be kind to everyone. Put Your love in us and let it begin to shine through, we pray!
