Shut Out

2nd Thessalonians 1:9 Shut Out

They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power  2nd Thessalonians 1:9  NIV

One night some reckless boys went over into a Mexican border town to check out the nightlife.  But they did not keep track of the time.  When the young people finally came to the border post, they found that the gates were locked and that their ride had left them.  They shouted to see if someone would let them back into their country.  But there was no one to hear them.  They were shut out!  What could they do?  Have we ever been kept from something that we felt we should have or a place we would want to be?

The foolish boys tried to climb the gate.  One of them fell and hit his head.  He spent time in a coma and lost his sight in one eye.  He could have lost his life.  When it comes to our spiritual health though, things could be infinitely worse.  Those who are so reckless as to not concern themselves with where they stand with God´s Son, Jesus Christ, could find themselves shut out too!  They will not just miss the opportunity to live out their lives in Paradise.  They will never be able to come into the presence of the Lord!  In our current darkness, we may never guess as to the true nature of this tragedy.  But it is what all creation was made for.  Shall we examine our hearts to make sure we are never found on the wrong side of the fence and are shut out from the presence of our God?

Dear Lord,

Let nothing on earth keep us from pressing on into Your presence and staying there with You forever, we pray!

Amen
