Alarmed

2nd Thessalonians 2:3 Alarmed

Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.  2nd Thessalonians 2:3  NIV

Three friends sat on the peak of a mountain of sand somewhere in the desert of Nevada.  The sun had set hours before and their conversation grew serious.  Suddenly, off in the distance the starry sky was lit up with explosions.  The spectators could only hear a distant rumble and wonder as to the meaning of the bombings.  Their homes were in that direction..  Was it World War 3?  What if it was?  For a moment the friends were placed in the awkward situation of figuring out how they should react.  What if it was the end of time?  How would we react?

The Bible tells us not to panic until a man of lawlessness is revealed.  We are not to expect that the end is here until men have completely rebelled against God.  Is that where we are?  Have we taken a look around?  Should we allow our hearts to enter a state of emergency?  When we see the world around us turn from God and make as if He is not real or even present in His creation, should we be alarmed?  Perhaps we could take precaution.  Could we edge a little closer to our Savior now?  Shall we ask Him just how concerned we should be over the times we are living in today?

Dear Lord,

Instead of being smug or overconfident, let us approach You.  Let us learn from You alone how urgent our current scene really is.  Then help us seek the right response, we pray!

Amen
