Dress Modestly

1st Timothy 2:9 Dress Modestly

I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,  1st Timothy 2:9  NIV

She always wore the right clothes.  Her tops were buttoned up prudently to her neck.  Her skirts fell below the knees.  Her sleeves and even her dress never revealed too much skin.  Her ears were never pierced and she never wore any rings.  Even her hair was cut at a modest length and taken up in a conservative style.  Could she be the perfect example of what God wants women to be like?

People can also go way too far in the other direction and go about flaunting their dress, their jewelry, or their skin.  So where do we find modesty?  What does it have to do with our relationship with God?  The truth is, actions, and consequently the way we dress, all come from values formed way under the skin.  Deep down in our soul, we form the way we conduct ourselves and make our decisions.  Inside our heart is where the Lord has asked to dwell.  Jesus Christ paid a great price so that our wayward natures could be refined and turned into a beautiful habitat for the Holy Spirit.  It is God that should be filling us and walking with us each day.  Where God is present, our beauty does not come from our skin, our makeup, or our dress.  Shall we pray to be modestly and fully dressed with the presence of God in our hearts today?

Dear Lord,

Fill us to overflowing with Your presence!  Walk with us and dress us with Your Spirit in every way, we pray!
