But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 1st Timothy 6:11 NIV
On a visit to Amsterdam, a group of tourists walked down the street in the Red-Light District. They had heard stories of this place but were still curious if it truly existed. Girls in windows and doorways waved and beckoned to the young men in the group. One of them wandered too close a doorway to hear what a girl was saying, and suddenly, he found himself inside. The girl kept his attention by talking while expertly herding him into a small inner room. Fear gripped him as he saw a bed and a table full of strange items. The girl tried to lock the door. But, just then, the young man´s brother burst in. He grabbed his arm and they both fled out to the safety of the street. Have we ever needed to flee too?
We could easily allow our attention to be distracted by our busy lives and our aspirations. Or we can yearn for higher goals. We could desire a place by the Lord´s side. We can pursue a relationship with God and strive to grow closer to Jesus Christ each day. In doing so, we can become more like our Savior. Will we go on to seek the loftier road? Would we like to be set apart for God? Shall we pray that we can begin to grow into shining examples of men and women of God in our world today?
Draw us so near to You now that we leave our old ways behind. Let us walk so close to You that everyone will know that we are truly Yours, we pray!
