For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Hebrews 4:2 NIV
The tension mounted as the pilots neared the island. They were low on fuel and this was the last chance of reaching land. But the clouds closed in on them. They were not trained for instrument landings and they really should not have been out there over the open sea. They tried to fight off their fears. But the thought of the commercial flight that had crashed into the hills on the island earlier that year kept creeping back into their minds. Ignoring the tower´s instructions to return to the prescribed altitude and heading, they strained to catch a glimpse of anything that would help them navigate through the cloud. Prayers went up. The moments seemed to stretch and their chances of survival were rapidly dwindling. Suddenly, directly below them, they saw the painted numbers of the runway. It was a miracle! The crew made it safely onto the ground after seeing those numbers. What value do we place on what we have heard of the Lord?
To those pilots, all the warnings and instructions from the control tower were of little value to them in their predicament. Fortunately, their God was looking after them and parted the clouds. We could also fail to listen to the warnings and counsel that we have heard to come to know our God. Shall we pray that our faith will grow and that we open our hearts to the only One who can save us?
Dear Lord,
We have heard the urgent call to seek You personally. Help us step out in faith and honestly come to You now, we pray!
Amen
