Written on Hearts

Hebrews 8:10 written on hearts

This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Hebrews 8:10 NIV

In the heat of the African afternoon sunshine, a group of people was searching for a cave. They left the car and were looking amongst the boulders on the steep side of a large hill. Finally, someone shouted, “Here it is!” When they made it into the entrance, they stood staring at the walls of the cave. The walls were covered with beautiful primitive images of hunters, their families, and the animals that they hunted. Written in some kind of red dye, the visitors could almost read the stories from the ancient drawings. While they were observing, one of the young men started climbing a crack in the corner. There, several meters from the ground, he found an old ivory tusk from an elephant. It was hidden deep in a crack where no one could see. Do we know that there is also something special written on our hearts?

For the Christian, the delightful wonder that is written in our souls is that we belong to the Lord. There is much that is written on paper, uploaded to the internet, and even on the walls of caves. But the Living Word that whispers wonders of our God in our living core is forever speaking to us. The Holy Spirit teaches us, leads us, and draws us into ever more amazing discoveries of our Savior Jesus Christ. Would we like to have His name, written in our hearts and telling the world that we are His and He is ours today?

Dear Lord,

Write Your laws, Your love, and Your name in our hearts each day so that we will surely be Yours forever and ever, we pray!
