Fix Our Eyes on Jesus

Hebrews 12-2

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 NIV

Visitors to the Denver area went to see the Nuggets basketball team play. They were sitting in an upper level and had a great view of the arena. It was an exciting game and the guests were enjoying themselves. But every so often, the noise of the crowd would change its tune. Instead of the intense cheering and encouragement from the spectators, there would be laughter and glee. People would be pointing to a different area of the arena and often the giant, jumbo-screen over the court would display what was drawing the crowd´s attention. It was the team´s mascot. This curious-looking but loveable mountain lion would be doing something funny. Even as the game went on, many of the fans could not help but look to see what Rocky was up to. What do we fix our eyes on?

It is the delight of any true Christian to spend precious moments gazing on the One who loved us enough to give Himself to save us. But God is not to be just something that catches our eye once every weekend or in our morning or evening devotions. Our Hero is to be our heart´s quiet focus throughout our day. Every moment, and especially those that are the most urgently decisive, should be lived while looking at Him. If we can fix our eyes on Christ, then our hearts are more tuned to Him. We can see with His eyes, love with His heart, and see where He is moving in each particular moment. Shall we fix our eyes and our souls on Jesus now?

Dear Jesus,

Help us fix our eyes and our attention on You always. Let us live each moment of the day with You ever before us, we pray!

Amen
