Come Near

James 4:8 Come Near

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8

The boy stood with his feet in the warm water of the river. He was standing on a sandbank that divided the main current and a wide pool. He could see his brother and some friends coming back from a walk downriver. They were approaching a big log that was lying on the bank a few yards from the river´s edge. They were knee-deep in the water and making a big noise as they splashed along. Suddenly, the log spun around and ran frantically into the water. It was no log at all! It was a large crocodile! The startled hikers quickly ran out of the water and further up the bank for safety. Are we truly aware of what it is that we are coming near to today?

We draw near to things all the time. Either we are drawing near to our Lord, or we are drawing near to something that will harm us severely. It may even take our life! We may never see the danger. Our situation may seem as harmless as a log. The only thing that will ever be able to protect us from dangers we do not even know are lying in wait for us, is a good, close walk with the Savior. Nothing else on earth has been given unto us that will bring us safely home. Even now, while we are skipping along trying to enjoy ourselves, let us edge in close to the One who was sent to protect us. Let us draw near to the only One who sees what lies in our path. Let us come near to the conquering King, who laid down His life so that we may live! Let us come to Jesus and stay ever so near to Him each moment of our lives! It will mean life or death for us! Shall we come near to God and walk closer with Him each day?

Dear Lord,

Let us walk so near to You that You may keep us from every evil that will ever lie in wait for us, we pray!

Amen

  1. Your comment is curious. The Bible leads souls from every age unto God. And yet, you object to a message for us to draw near Him. Perhaps you could explain what part of a post encouraging people to seek God is perverse. He sees the dangers that would keep us from Him. He watches too many of us march along, going our own ways. The only safety anyone truly has is found in seeing our plight and running to Him. Please explain why you feel you need to attack a message that could help some realize there is distance, and seek the Lord again.
