No Bow Or Sword

For I will not trust in my bow, neither will my sword save me. Psalm 44:6

Our preacher paints us a vivid picture of our predicament here on earth. He reveals us as soldiers in a mighty battle. He encourages us to prepare for anything the foe will throw at us. So, we dutifully arm ourselves with the first things that come to mind. Our souls cry out to be good soldiers for the Lord. But if we are not careful, the battle will be over for us before it ever begins.

What happens often is that the enemy switches everything around for us. He does it so that we never realize what we are up against. We start putting on the armor we were encouraged to use but forget our enemy is the father of lies. He has had a long time to hone his skills of deception. One of his tricks is making us think that we will know how to fight. So we put on our fancy protection gear, hoping to influence the battle.

The battle is real. The enemy is skilled and deadly. One that he could almost seem to win against the Almighty. And he would except for one thing. The battle has already been won. Parts of the struggle still rage around us, but our fight is not against the enemy. Let the Savior deal with His foe. Let us step closer to Him. We must fight against the distractions that keep us from being right where Christ is. Not even buckling up armor is a worthy distraction for us. Leave the swords and shields if we dare. But never let anything keep us from our costly place tied to our Master´s side.

When the battle dust finally subsides, we can be standing triumphant. But only if we can follow and keep our eyes on our Savior. So, let us tend to where we stand with Him. With our souls glued on Him, it will not matter what is happening all around, no matter how fierce the battle gets.

For I will not trust in my bow, neither will my sword save me.  Psalm 44:6 (WEB)
