Progress in Spirit

If we would like to step closer to God, we need to kindle a fire hot enough within us to make that change.

Speculations do not get us far in spiritual terms. Yet Christians are experts at it. We love to engage in all kinds of talk about the things in which we believe. This is good, but only when we use it to take us further in our pilgrimage to the Lord.

The Israelites could have entered the promised land sooner. But they needed to be more tuned to God than they were to the world around them. Their story should instruct us. We only do well if our talk of faith begins to burn within us. When it glows with sufficient heat and desire after the Lord, we will get off our butts and onto our knees.

Dear Lord, let no amount of words ever keep us from seeking You. Take what little notion we have of You and Your Kingdom and set a fire within us. Drive us after You with a passion. Help us never settle for anything short of You with us. Let us never rest until we are found completely in You and Your Spirit flows fully in us. In Your name, we pray, Amen

Psalm 63:1  ESV / A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Deuteronomy 4:29  ESV / But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Psalm 9:10  ESV / And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Matthew 7:7-8  ESV / “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
