There is a subtle yet devious twist in our thinking lately. It may sound harmless enough, but it could cost us more than our lives. This happens when we Christians look anywhere else than to Christ for our answers. It goes something like this: we sense a low spiritual tone in our lives, so we look for a better preacher. Or we find some new Christian influence or meetings to attend. It is true that we need each other, and getting together will always be good. But that painful hole in our soul will only ever be filled with the Spirit of the Lord.
So, search all we want. Let us give in to the ache within. Be moved to the point where we can no longer sit back comfortably, wherever we are. Set out on the quest of our lifetimes. Seek what it is that we desperately need. But let us recognize that what we need is our Savior. Make Christ the One that we must find today. Let us spend whatever time we can devote, and then steal some more. Throw ourselves headlong into the task of getting close to Jesus!
Dear Lord, open our eyes to see when and where we may fall short of You. Do not let us settle for another meeting to attend or book to read. Help us use our time wisely. Let us come to You. Let us walk and talk with You. When we grow close enough for You to lead, we might find that others will feed from the closeness we share with You. May Your name be glorified and Your children draw near You, we pray. Amen
John 14:6 ESV / Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Revelation 22:17 ESV / The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
Matthew 11:28-30 ESV / Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Isaiah 55:1-13 ESV / “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.
