Today If You Hear

Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7 NIV

 

The young man lay in a small caravan parked in a friend´s yard in Australia. He had been staying there for over a month now. Despite the late hour, he could not sleep. He needed to make some changes in his life but he had no idea what those changes should be. The more he thought, the less chance he had of getting to sleep. An insistent voice seemed to be calling him out. He had never done it before, but this time, he got up and went. He started walking down the deserted streets. Soon he was out of the suburbs. Praying silently, he climbed a hill in the dark. He reached the top and sat down on a large boulder. There were clouds hiding the moon. But he could sense a Presence there above the misty giants as they blew over the hilltop. Have we ever been moved enough by the Lord´s call that we knew we had to do something today?

There was no audible word from God that night. But one man came to know he needed to respond to Jesus. When he realized that the Holy Spirit was whispering to Him, he got up and went. He spent a moment with the Lord that has not yet been forgotten. Could we seek to have a heart that will leap up at the chance to steal away and be with God too? If we hear Christ calling to us today, will we let ourselves be moved enough to go? Will we go anywhere He leads us, just to be with Him?

 

Dear Lord,

Give us a heart that responds to You! Let us be quick to hear and even quicker to get up and follow Your voice, we pray!
